Student Vocational Coach - Phoenix Main Campus

AZACS was awarded the 2023/2024 National ESEA Distinguished Schools Award for Arizona and the 2022 YASS Prize for innovation in education and providing a transformational experience by expanding unique individualized learning programs for autism charter schools.

The Student Vocational Coach will provide one‑on‑one, individualized support to AZACS students participating in student internship roles on campus. The coordinator must be a self‑starter with strong written and oral communication skills who is comfortable working directly with students, teachers, and school leaders to integrate student experiences and support within the campus community.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Develop and formalize student vocational duties within the internship program to support the assigned campus.
  • Engage in one‑on‑one contact with students on campus to support daily and weekly vocational duties.
  • Provide one‑on‑one individualized support to the students to assist them in the development of vocational/employment skills (resume writing, job interviews, application completion, etc.).
  • Work closely with Campus Directors and staff to help them understand the value of the support the AZACS student internships provide.
  • Collect data regarding student performance.
  • Assisting students in discovering and overcoming their personal barriers and setting goals.
  • Developing effective job coaching and employment plans.
  • Communicating with students to understand their goals and ambitions.
  • Train students on interpersonal skills.
  • Serve to support behaviors on a day‑to‑day basis in the community as well as on campus.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is considered an essential requirement of your position.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Completion of or currently enrolled in a program for Education, OR Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), or currently enrolled in a program preferred.
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs.
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance.
  • Ability to communicate with parents, co‑workers, and professional contacts courteously and professionally, and follow AZACS guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in structured teaching, center‑based model preferred.
  • Valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card.
Required
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
