Job Description

Job Goal: To assist professional staff members by performing a variety of tasks related to the operation of classrooms or other instructional areas.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Instructs students under the direction of the supervising teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with planned activities and instructional programs.
  • Assists in preparing instructional materials for daily instruction as planned by the teacher; sets up and operates audiovisual equipment; types educational materials; uses copy machines and computers.
  • Assists the teacher in maintaining individual student records.
  • Assists in supervising students at arrival and dismissal, in the classroom, and lunchroom.
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Supports special education students in accordance with individualized education programs.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with teachers, support staff, and school administrators. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)/restraint certification, First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training course completed at first available offering by District. High school diploma preferred or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of Internet and district software, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other appropriate technology software).
  • Knowledge of appropriate business machines and telephones.
  • Monitor special system(s), including security and fire alarm systems.
