ESS Resource Teacher

TITLE: ESS Resource Teacher

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

REPORTS TO: School Administrator

SUMMARY

The ESS Resource Teacher supports inclusion, working with students individually, in small groups, and within classroom settings. The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, school psychologists, and other staff to adapt curriculum, provide assessments and interventions, and develop individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to personalize learning goals and accommodations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Implementation of Instructional Program
  • Teach students individually, in groups, and within the classroom.
  • Develop or adapt materials and teaching strategies.
  • Assess students with long or short‑term learning difficulties.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify individual needs and define appropriate curriculum‑based activities.
  • Participate in the School Based Problem Solving Team to implement interventions.
  • Develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each special education student.
  • Review the IEP with parents, administrators, and classroom teachers.
  • Design and teach appropriate curriculum, assign work aligned with student needs, and evaluate homework and classroom progress.
  • Use patience and culturally sensitive learning interventions to motivate students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records; prepare required reports.
  • Meet with administrators and parents to discuss student progress.
  • Provide suggestions for home learning.
  • Help students develop emotionally, socially acceptable behavior, and daily living skills.
  • Implement the IEP according to state/national guidelines.
  • Complete and submit substitute evaluation forms through the principal to Human Resources.
B. Supervision of Students
  • Provide a classroom environment that protects health, safety, and welfare.
  • Implement an assertive discipline approach in all classrooms.
  • Share responsibility with administrators for adequate student supervision.
C. School Operations
  • Assist in maintaining student records, including attendance and cumulative folders.
  • Help maintain up‑to‑date inventory lists of equipment and instructional materials.
D. Participation in In‑Service Programs
  • Participate in scheduled in‑service workshops during the normal workday; substitutes or administration will supervise classes as needed.
  • Non‑reimbursed in‑service programs should not require teachers to stay past the normal workday.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings at the unit school, not exceeding two hours per month beyond the scheduled workday, excluding Friday afternoons except in emergencies.
  • Participate yearly in the development of in‑service programs/workshops.
E. Interaction with Parents
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships; communicate academic progress and behavior.
  • Attend at least two scheduled evening parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Attend at least two parent‑teacher functions (including Open House if applicable).
F. Interaction with Staff
  • Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the district’s effective and orderly operation.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree or higher

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • A Valid Arizona Teacher Certification
  • Arizona Endorsement Subject Specific
  • Special Education Certification
  • Appropriately Certified
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card
EXPERIENCE

One year experience teaching in an ESS classroom preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The working environment is the normal classroom setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Nine‑month year, Certified Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

EVALUATION

Performance evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
