Paraprofessional / IA
The Instructional Assistant assists the teachers in implementing the instructional program, including working directly with children in small groups or on a one-to-one basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and attends district training needed to perform responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
- Assists teacher with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Conducts learning games with students according to established procedures.
- Provides supervision and instruction of children, including copying, cutting, coloring, and constructing materials and bulletin boards.
- Maintains regular attendance and complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.
- Maintains a safe learning environment for students.
- Anticipates and addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
- Provides individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher.
- Serves snacks and lunches as necessary.
- Attends workshops as directed.
Supervises children in the classroom.
Qualifications and Requirements- Education: Associate’s Degree (60 Semester Hours) or passing test results from the Para Pro or Work Keys assessment required;
High School diploma or GED required. - Preferred prior experience working with children.
- Valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
- Must pass proficiency tests in Math, Reading, and Grammar with a score of 75% or better.
- Problem‑solving and reasoning ability to address practical problems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals and groups of students to support academics and behavior management.
- Patience and flexibility to perform a variety of tasks.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and complete assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, teachers, and colleagues.
- Self‑directed and able to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to engage in repetitive motions and lift materials up to 50 pounds.
Frequent stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions; capable of moving up to 50 pounds of materials. Close vision required for reading handwritten or typed material.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is low to moderate noise levels, with frequent interaction with multiple people and public stakeholders.
