Job SummaryThe Academic Advisement Department seeks a dedicated academic advisor to support the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences program, which serves nearly 2,000 students. The role involves managing, planning, developing, and implementing academic advising services. The advisor serves as the frontline contact for students, driving engagement and empowering students to achieve their academic and career goals. The position requires building formative relationships, interpreting academic policies, and providing clear guidance across all development stages—from self‑awareness to advanced education.
EssentialFunctions
- Holistic Academic Advising and Retention (50%):
Lead advising for assigned Field of Interest, manage student case load, advise on programs, financial aid, and support services, and conduct outreach to enhance retention and completion. - Advising Administrative Functions (30%):
Perform documentation in the Student Information System, develop advising materials, review course substitutions, and support federal financial aid compliance. - Guided Pathways & Projects (10%):
Implement Guided Pathways Framework, deliver training, liaise with academic departments, and analyze data for evidence‑based decision making. - Student Support & Complex Case Resolution (10%):
Interpret policies, advise on student conduct, and maintain a respectful, inclusive environment.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and 2 years of student services or college teaching experience; or
- Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience; or
- High School/GED and 6 years of experience.
- Master’s degree.
- 1+ years in a community college setting.
- 1+ years providing advising services in higher education.
- 1+ years using a student information system for enrollment and advising.
- 1+ years leading or assisting with student services projects aimed at retention and completion.
- 1 year of recent MCCCD experience.
- Indoor office environment.
- Prolonged computer screen use.
- Valid Arizona Class D driver’s license required.
- Travel to campus during interviews at candidate’s expense.
- Five 8‑hour days in fall and spring; four 10‑hour days in summer, with occasional evenings and weekends.
- No remote work eligibility.
