- High school diploma or GED plus one of the following:
- 60 postsecondary credit hours of college coursework
- Associate’s degree
- Passing the ETS Parapro Assessment (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)
- Passing the ACT Work Keys test
The job of Instructional Assistant/SPED Personal Care is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for working with special‑needs students one‑on‑one, following educational and specific behavioral plans, and reporting students’ daily activities. This job reports to the Teacher and/or Site Administrator.
Essential Functions- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
- Assist medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed students (e.g., diapering, tube feeding) for the purpose of maintaining students’ personal hygiene.
- Communicate with teachers and a variety of health care professionals (e.g., Speech Therapist, PTs, COTAs) for the purpose of evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
- Document students’ daily activities (behavior, completed assignments, on/off‑task times) for the purpose of completing daily logs and hourly activities.
- Evaluate situations involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc. for the purpose of taking action and/or providing referral for resolution.
- Implement behavioral plans designed by IEP teams under the supervision of the assigned teacher for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
- Maintain manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements.
- Model conversation, manners, clean‑up activities, listening, job skills, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Monitor students’ daily schedule and behavior plan for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provide instruction under the supervision of the assigned teacher for the purpose of implementing IEP goals and ensuring student success.
- Remain with the student at all times to provide safety, remove student when necessary, and de‑escalate situations outside the classroom.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Responsibilities:
Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; contributing to the organization’s services.
Work Environment:
Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
