Overview
Reg/Spec Ed. Para-Pro/Instructional Assistant - $16.00-$19.30 per hour. Traditional school year position. Must have two (2) year degree or higher or 60 college credit hours or a passing score on the specialized test (Para-pro, Work Keys, etc). Computer knowledge preferred but not required. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently. Ability to assist teacher in oral assessment of home language level.
Responsibilities- Directs individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Coordinates with the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Supervises independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Evaluates notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.
- Directs large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and other language enrichment activities.
- Provides information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Orients the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Experience with special needs students and reading and following IEPs.
- Assist with daily living skills.
- Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Computer knowledge preferred but not required.
- Ability to assist teacher in oral assessment of Home Language level.
- Two (2) year degree or actively pursuing post-secondary education.
- Preferred ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently (preferred).
