Job Title: Instructional Assistant K-3/Playground Assistant

Term of Employment: 9‑Month, Part‑Time
Reports To: Principal
Summary: The Instructional Assistant K-3 assists in the supervision and instruction of students and relieves teachers of clerical tasks. The Playground Assistant provides safety and welfare for students during non‑classroom activities, communicates observations, and provides emergency care as needed.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma, GED or equivalent

- Administers tests to assist teachers in evaluating students’ progress.
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Assists teachers (e.g., reading, drill work, storytelling, correcting papers, supervising testing) to develop and implement lesson plans.
- Assists the teacher with non‑instructional duties (e.g., snacks, toileting, clothing routines) to support teacher and students as required.
- Confers with teachers to assist in evaluation of students’ progress and/or implementation of students’ objectives.
- Guides independent study (e.g., enrichment or remedial work) to ensure student success.
- Maintains classroom equipment, students’ files, and records to ensure availability of items and documentation.
- Monitors individual students, classroom, and/or playground activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., in‑service training) to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
- Performs record‑keeping and basic clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured students, fights) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Assists other personnel as required to support their work activities.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
- Administers first aid to provide immediate emergency care.
- Assists students with personal care requirements to address immediate need or refer to the appropriate party.
- Diffuses potential emergency situations to minimize disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to students or staff.
- Monitors campus environment to ensure unauthorized persons are not on school grounds in violation of school and district policies.
- Monitors playground equipment to ensure equipment is safe for playground activities.
- Monitors students during assigned periods, lunch periods, and recesses within various environments to protect student safety and welfare.
- Reports observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate behavior) to communicate information to teachers and/or administration.
- Assists other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Facilitates games among students to provide age‑appropriate activities.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
Skills are required to perform multiple, non‑technical tasks with periodic skill upgrades as job conditions change. Knowledge is required in basic math, reading manuals, writing documents, and presenting information. Ability is required to schedule activities, collate data, use basic equipment, and collaborate with diverse groups, meeting deadlines and safety practices.
ResponsibilityResponsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices, leading and guiding others, and operating within a defined budget.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine‑finger dexterity. The job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. Work is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
