Floater Infant & Toddler Teacher PRN

Location:

Phoenix, AZ
- Job Type: Non-Exempt On-Call

- Work Schedule:

On-Call position, 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week, 12 months a year

General Description

The Floater Infant and Toddler Teacher will support teachers to promote and develop the infant and toddler in the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and linguistic growth and development of infants and toddlers. They ensure learning environments are nurturing spaces that support the development of all children by providing responsive care giving in a well-organized and managed environment. Provide an educational and development focused environment and are responsible for age-appropriate classroom management.

They build strong relationships with families by supporting parent-child relationships that are key to children's healthy development, school readiness, and well-being. The Floater Teacher is assigned to a classroom and the assignments change according to the center's need.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Upon hire, agree to enroll and complete a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) program. (Tuition assistance may be available depending on funding availability). Basic computer skills. Must have a valid Driver's License, Personal Vehicle and Liability Insurance required. In states in which public transportation is utilized a valid state  required.

Preferred Qualifications

Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialed in Infant and Toddler (current) Associate Degree, or other qualifying education in Child Development, Early childhood Education, or similar Minimum two (2) years, recent, paid, and successful experience working in a childcare or preschool setting. Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards. Bilingual (English and Spanish).

What You'll Be Doing

Essential Functions

  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Head Start Program Performance Standards, State of New York licensing requirements, and agency's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with all staff and families, to include respect for culture, diversity and ethnicity.
  • Ensure the safety of all children and staff by complying with written safety standards.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of practices

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching staff with breaks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain a healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environment for children:
    • Conduct daily playground health and safety monitoring.
    • Set-up and clean-up playground, daily.
    • Detect and report signs of illness, discomfort, and unusual behavior of children to Teachers or Family Advocate.
  • Follow organizational process for complying with mandated reporting of suspected child abuse/neglect.
  • Keep classrooms, storage areas, and office space neat and clutter free.
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures established by the program.
  • Report any safety hazards observed indoors and outdoors.
  • Keep direct supervision and safety of all children.
  • Create a pleasant, inviting atmosphere in which the child feels comfortable, supporting the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of children.
  • Practice Standards of Conduct and guidance techniques as defined in the Discipline Policy and Procedures.
  • Curriculum/Assessment/Teaching and Learning Environment
    • When covering teacher breaks:
      • Assist Teachers in the implementation of the curriculum and teaching experience.
      • Always assure a nurturing and language rich interaction and environment that facilitates maximum social and emotional development.
  • Parent, Family & Community Engagement:
    • Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental engagement. Modeling appropriate behavior and positive guidance techniques.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities:
    • Assist with food services and classroom needs as requested.
