Definition

The Arts Content Specialist provides leadership and support to staff for the improvement of student achievement. The Arts Content Specialist is responsible for facilitating the development, implementation and assessment of standards‑based instruction focused on student performance in the areas of Performing and Visual Arts. The Arts Content Specialist will work with appropriate personnel at all levels in the organization to implement and support current best practices in teaching and learning as they relate to Performing and Visual Arts and programmatic requirements as determined by the District and Arizona Department of Education.

Major

Duties
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of District professional development activities to improve student learning in all Performing and Visual Arts offerings.
  • Provide training in the development and use of Performing and Visual Arts curricula, best practices for teaching and learning and related National, State, District and standardized assessments.
  • Train teachers in the development of instructional units tied to National and State Arts standards, benchmarks and assessments.
  • Assist teachers in the selection and use of instructional materials to support standards‑based Arts curriculum in the areas of Performing Arts and Visual Arts.
  • Provide coaching to classroom teachers and teacher teams in the delivery of instruction.
  • Actively seek and receive training on effective research‑based instructional practices and in turn offer professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with other Content Specialists, Coaches, District personnel and pre and post‑secondary representatives to ensure connections across the curriculum.
  • Serve as a resource to Professional Development Specialists and campus administration regarding content and instructional strategies specific to Performing and Visual Arts.
  • Provide support and guidance to Arts Instructional Leaders and Team Leaders.
  • Facilitate events to promote the Arts in and out of the District.
  • Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Accountability or designee.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Performing or Visual Arts or a related area or a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or other education related field.
  • Arizona K-12 Teaching Certificate in either Performing or Visual Arts is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful Performing or Visual Arts teaching experience in a secondary setting.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in curriculum writing, providing feedback and support to groups of adult learners: collaborating, modeling, observing, and improving instructional practice.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with District and campus level administration, Teachers on Assignment, Support Staff, and Arizona State Department of Education personnel.
  • Working knowledge of development of curricula using state standards, research‑based best practices that support teaching and learning and the construction of assessments.
  • Working knowledge of audio, video, digital equipment, and related software or internet‑based programs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the attainment of the goals of the District Strategic and Continuous Improvement Plan goals.
  • Good command of the English language and ability to compose letters and reports using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of diversity issues and perspectives.
  • Ability to organize daily work to accomplish goals and complete projects within given timelines.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures preferred.
