6th-8th Grade Math Specialist
The 6th-8th Grade Mathematics Specialist serves as a key instructional leader dedicated to improving the quality of mathematics teaching and learning across grades 6-8. This role focuses on strengthening instructional practices, deepening content knowledge, and enhancing assessment literacy through research-based, high impact strategies. The specialist operates with a high degree of initiative and self-direction while fostering strong, collaborative partnerships with teachers, instructional leaders, and district teams to promote continuous improvement and equitable student outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Valid Arizona Standard Elementary or Secondary Education Certification and an ADE Mathematics Endorsement (Middle Grades Mathematics Endorsement preferred).
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience in instructional coaching, mentoring, or teacher leadership roles preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of high-quality mathematics instruction aligned to district and state standards.
- Design, facilitate, and evaluate professional learning opportunities that build teachers' mathematical content knowledge and instructional expertise.
- Model effective, research-based high impact instructional strategies and co-teach lessons to support classroom implementation.
- Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions, identify trends, and support targeted Tier 1 instruction, as well as interventions.
- Collaborate with school and district leadership to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
- Support the development and refinement of common formative and summative assessments to ensure rigor and alignment.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and support to teachers to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
- Stay current on research and best practices in mathematics education and proactively share insights with staff.
- Facilitate PLCs focused on student achievement, data analysis, and instructional improvement in alignment to the school and district Integrated Action Plan.
- Promote equitable instructional practices that ensure all students have access to high-quality mathematics learning experiences.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders regarding instructional goals, progress, and outcomes.
- Take initiative in identifying instructional needs and developing responsive supports without direct supervision.
Knowledge and
Skills:
- Knowledge of state and national standards and district adopted curriculum and instructional materials.
- Expertise in research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices in mathematics.
- Knowledge of and works effectively in a professional learning community.
- Knowledge of a wide range of assessments and use of data information systems.
- Demonstrates professional development skills and works effectively with adults.
- Demonstrates ability in working with diverse populations (ELL, Special Education, etc.).
- Demonstrates continued professional growth by participating in professional learning opportunities, engaging with professional literature, and collaborating with colleagues to strengthen research-based practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate in oral and written form.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- May require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Some positions may require climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
