Summary: The job of Instructional Assistant Preschool ESS is to assist (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of students; relieve teachers of clerical tasks; assist students by providing and developing students’ adaptive and behavioral skills.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- 60 College Credit Hours or AA Degree or proof of successfully passing a State-approved Para-professional assessment
- First Aid / CPR Training
- Proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps (MMR)
- Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP)
- Proof of TB Test, negative results
- Ability to obtain a Food Handler Card
- Job-related experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and/or reinforcing classroom objectives.
- Administer evaluations to assist the teacher in evaluating students’ progress and recognizing individual needs.
- Administer first-aid and assist medically fragile and/or injured students, under supervision (e.g., tube feeding, toileting) for appropriate care for ill children as assigned.
- Assist teachers and parents in implementing lesson plans and developing students’ adaptive and behavioral skills.
- Confere with teachers, parents and appropriate personnel to assist in evaluating student progress or implementing objectives.
- Implement behavioral plans to meet students’ social and daily living skills as needed.
- Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of the teacher to assist the teacher and students academically.
- Maintain students’ special education files/records to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment.
- Monitor individual students, classroom and/or playground activities to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Perform record keeping and basic clerical functions (scheduling, copying, etc.) to support the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.
- Process cash receipts for field trip activities to ensure receipt of funds for special events.
- Respond to emergency situations (injured students, fights, etc.) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Participate in various meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
Skills required include multiple non-technical tasks and periodic skill upgrades to meet changing job conditions. Knowledge required covers basic math, reading manuals, writing documents, presenting information, and understanding complex instructions. Specific knowledge may include pertinent codes, policies, regulations, laws, and basic first-aid and health care.
Abilities required include scheduling activities, collating data, using basic job-related equipment, working with diverse groups, independent problem solving, and following safety practices.
ResponsibilityResponsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices, leading or guiding others, operating within a defined budget, and using resources from other units as needed. There is an opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine-finger dexterity. Work composition: 50% sitting, 35% walking, 15% standing. Minimal temperature variations.
