Job Summary

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides Phoenix College (PC) faculty with professional development opportunities to improve student outcomes in all instructional environments. CTL is seeking an Instructional Designer () passionate about teaching, learning, and technology, with experience seamlessly integrating these elements within the classroom. The  consult with faculty to ensure high-quality learning experiences, relying on foundational knowledge and skills in instructional design and technology.

The  in Distance Learning initiatives, builds and nurtures strong partnerships with PC educators, and serves as a subject‑matter expert to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. The  create and deliver professional development opportunities to support PC faculty teaching in all course modalities and provide regular faculty support regarding their learning, technology, and professional development needs.

Essential Functions
  • 25% Serves as instructional design and development subject matter expert and consultant to faculty; collaborates and consults with faculty on the effective application of instructional design strategies and the use of web‑based resources, multimedia, and AI tools within instructional systems.
  • 25% Develops, facilitates, and evaluates faculty professional development opportunities to promote faculty competence in high‑impact teaching practices, integrating and using academic technologies, and emerging topics. Uses research into emerging industry trends, tools, studies, and data to guide the creation of faculty learning opportunities.
  • 20% Provides consultation, coaching and support to faculty regarding course content and delivery to increase teaching effectiveness and student outcomes. Supports responsibilities include administering the Canvas learning management system, adopting tools such as Learning Tool Interoperability, and supporting department‑ and college‑supported instructional applications.
  • 20% Partners with the college Distance Learning Committee to support distance learning quality assurance efforts guided by the college's Distance Learning Plan and Distance Learning Expectations; coordinates Quality Matters and other quality initiatives.
  • 10% Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, training and development, educational technology or related field and four years of experience in instructional design and development, program and systems development and/or assessment and evaluation; or an equivalent combination of degree and directly related full‑time work experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum, and/or Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching in a K-12 and/or higher education setting.
  • Experience consulting with faculty on instructional design projects, andragogy, and/or technologies to enhance learning environments.
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development learning opportunities regarding teaching, learning, and/or technology needs.
  • Experience supporting educational technology and/or a learning management system, such as Canvas.
  • Experience designing courses based on Quality Matters, universal design, or other design frameworks.
  • Experience applying learning theories, instructional design theory, and/or academic assessment techniques.
  • One year of full‑time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.
