Position: TOA, NATIVE AMERICAN SPECIALIST 2026 - 2027 SCHOOL YEAR (1022)

TOA, Native American Specialist

The TOA, Native American Specialist shall be responsible for providing supplementary services to eligible Native American students at assigned worksites within the school district.

Major duties include:

  • Consulting with local Native tribes on all Title programs.
  • Coordinating and conducting Tribal Consultations on all Title budgets with neighboring Tribes.
  • Gathering and monitoring student data to document Native American student progress.
  • Analyzing data to determine program effectiveness.
  • Using data to make informed program decisions.
  • Managing and coordinating grant funding cycles: coordinate Title VI and Johnson O'Malley (JOM) grants (including planning, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Meeting program goals through collaboration with the parent committees and Phoenix Union.
  • Compiling, completing, and verifying Native American certification process for Title VI and Johnson O'Malley funding.
  • Overseeing the collection, verification, and certification process of all tribal enrollment documents as required by state and federal mandates.
  • Preparing state and federal reports on the academic progress of Native American students.
  • Monitoring and evaluating program goals and budget expenditures.
  • Holding regular meetings.
  • Recruiting Native American parents to serve on Indian Education committees for JOM and Title VI.
  • With their assistance, determining program goals and budgets.
  • Coordinating the preparation of expenditures and submission of invoices that support program goals.
  • Holding regular parent executive meetings and general meetings.
  • Assisting Native American Advisors in the performance of their duties.
  • Through the Native American Advisors, establishing, managing, coordinating, and supporting site-based Native American Youth Councils and support groups.
  • Promoting awareness of, and appreciation for, historical and cultural contributions of Native Americans.
  • Providing teachers with professional development workshops designed to encourage cultural competency.
  • Collaborating with school counselors and other school personnel to ensure that quality educational services are provided to all Native American students.
  • Collaborating with school principals and other school leaders to strengthen and enrich the educational experience and provide support services to Native American students.
  • Advocating for Native American students.
  • Creating extended learning opportunities for Native American students, which may include Saturday school, before/after school tutoring, and/or summer enrichment classes.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree;
    Master's Degree preferred.
  • Possess Arizona Secondary Teaching Certificate.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience working with Native American Education Program(s).
  • Ability to administer and interpret a variety of education assessment instruments and to use information to provide appropriate educational services for students.
  • Ability to work with students and parents in a variety of situations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
