Student Support Specialist 1
Under the supervision of the Director, the student support specialist will provide retention support to all first-year, transfer and continuing college students. They will meet one-on-one with students to increase their persistence and performance at the university. They will also connect the student to other critical resources, including counseling, health services, financial aid and advising. Part of the role will involve providing support to the retention events that happen across all four campuses.
The position is primarily based on the Downtown Phoenix Campus and will include travel to all four Phoenix metro area campus locations to address university-wide responsibilities.

Position Salary Range: $53,435.20 annually
Essential Duties:
- Meet one on one with students to build connection and increase persistence.
- Support the Steps to Success Program and the events it entails.
- Help students troubleshoot any academic barriers they encounter.
- Works to plan and execute activities throughout the fall and spring semesters to support engagement and retention activities, along with other initiatives and activations that highlight student involvement and support student persistence in the College of Health Solutions.
- Collect and organize retention data.
- Works to maximize use of existing software systems, including but not limited to, Sun Devil Sync , and Salesforce.
- Assists student organizations in understanding and interpreting University policies and procedures.
- Supports College-wide initiatives to develop robust student engagement and retention programming that contributes to the student experience and enhances skill-building capacities including, but not limited to Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Homecoming and Open Door.
- Provide leadership training and organizational management opportunities through workshops and seminars for targeted student groups.
- Represents the College of Health Solutions Student Success department by serving on various department and university committees; attends seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Work location is primarily at the Downtown ASU campus; however, position will be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses.
- Develops and implements evaluation and assessment or retention strategies within the unit; including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes.
- Increases student engagement by promoting awareness and participation in engagement events and faculty led programs. Contributes to highlighting student stories and unique community partnerships formed through CHS.
- Facilitate CHS 101 Courses.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of experience with student retention or enrichment programs, student case management, and working with students from a variety of backgrounds.
- Commitment to values compatible with and supportive of ASU's charter as we have the responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, identify action steps, establish priorities, remain flexible, engage problem solving skills, and evaluate contexts throughout the development and implementation of programs and processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of leadership practices and techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of college/university student engagement techniques.
- Skill in developing and implementing student programming/activities in a higher education setting, including workshops, presentations and events.
- Skill in training college/university students for leadership roles and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with student and professional staff.
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- Skill in verbal and written communication, including basic desktop publishing experience.
- Availability to work nights and weekends when needed - this is an expectation for the position.
Working Environment:
- Use basic math.

- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear.
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.
