Position: Special Education Program Paraprofessional 26/27

POSITION OVERVIEW

Assist general education and special education teachers and other certificated personnel by performing a variety of instructional support duties for individual or small groups of special education pupils in a classroom or resource environment encompassing a range of disabilities. Paraprofessionals work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members to provide students with educational benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teachers.
  • Support students in general education and pull‑out rooms as assigned.
  • Assist in data collection related to student performance in academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional domains.
  • Help teachers devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Distribute and collect work, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips.
  • Maintain high levels of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned.
  • Alert teachers to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Serve as the chief source of information and assist substitute teachers in a teacher’s absence.
  • Assist staff and students in using educational computer programs and other technology.
  • Help maintain accurate records required by federal, state, and district policies.
  • Administer and assist in the evaluation of daily student assignments.
  • Organize learning environments; prepare and set up instructional materials and equipment for classroom activities.
  • Accompany or assist students to and from transportation to and from school.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene functions, including toileting, diapering, eating, dressing, and other self‑help skills.
  • Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
  • Monitor students’ daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe environment.
  • Attend problem‑solving/IEP meetings and provide input on student progress.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Paraprofessional Assessment completed successfully (if applicable).
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
BACKGROUND CHECKS

New employees must obtain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety before the first day of employment.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • May require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and concentration.
  • Local and in‑state travel required.
  • Perform kneeling, stooping, standing, and lifting activities as part of daily duties.

This is a federally funded position. Continuation of this position will be reviewed annually based on funding availability.
