JAG Teacher
The Jobs for Arizona Graduates (JAG) Teacher is responsible for implementing the JAG program to support students in developing academic, leadership, employability, and career readiness skills. The teacher serves as a mentor, advocate, and facilitator who assists students in overcoming barriers to graduation and postsecondary success while preparing them for careers, college, military service, and workforce opportunities. The JAG Teacher builds strong relationships with students, families, staff, community partners, and employers to ensure students receive comprehensive support and meaningful career development experiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Business, or related field preferred. Experience working with youth, especially at-risk or alternative education populations preferred.
- Knowledge of career readiness, workforce development, and student support strategies.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and student information systems.
- Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Jobs for Arizona Graduates (JAG) or similar youth development programs.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Experience in alternative education or dropout recovery settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Mentorship
- Build positive, supportive relationships with students through mentoring, coaching, and consistent communication.
- Identify student strengths, barriers, and goals to create individualized success plans.
- Monitor student attendance, behavior, academic progress, and graduation readiness.
- Provide intervention strategies and connect students with appropriate school and community resources.
- Conduct regular follow-up with students to ensure continued progress toward goals.
Career Readiness & Instruction
- Facilitate JAG curriculum focused on:
Career exploration Employability skills Leadership development Financial literacy Communication and professionalism Postsecondary planning - Support students with resume writing, interview preparation, job applications, and workplace readiness.
- Coordinate guest speakers, career fairs, college visits, and workplace learning opportunities.
- Assist students with transition planning for college, vocational programs, military, or employment.
Program Management
- Maintain accurate student records, documentation, case notes, and program data.
- Ensure compliance with JAG program standards, state requirements, and school expectations.
- Track student outcomes, including graduation, placement, and follow-up data.
- Prepare reports and participate in program evaluations and monitoring visits.
- Recruit and retain eligible students for participation in the JAG program.
Collaboration & Community Partnerships
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff to promote student success.
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, colleges, workforce agencies, and community organizations.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and opportunities.
- Participate in school events, student success meetings, and professional development activities.
