Instructional Assistant / Special Needs (SPED) – Shadow Mountain High School

Pay: $16.99 per hour
Location: Shadow Mountain High School, Phoenix, Arizona

Required
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Provide instructional support and supervision to special needs students in regular and self‑contained classrooms or individual settings. Assist with implementing instructional plans, monitoring behavior, and maintaining student safety and well‑being.
Essential Functions- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under teacher direction to support classroom objectives.
- Administer tests, homework, and make‑up work to support teachers.
- Assist medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed students with personal hygiene, feeding, medication, and other care needs.
- Attend training and in‑service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures).
- Communicate with teachers, support staff, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Escort students to bathrooms, offices, and other destinations ensuring safety.
- Implement behavioral plans under teacher supervision for students with behavior disorders.
- Intervene in conflicts using therapeutic approaches to diffuse confrontations.
- Document instructional materials and maintain electronic and manual records.
- Model appropriate social behavior, communication, and job skills for students.
- Monitor student schedules and behavior plans to ensure a safe environment.
- Support clerical functions (e.g., copying, filing, data entry).
- Provide instruction in academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, and job skills.
- Remain with students at all times for safety, de‑escalate situations outside the classroom, and respond to emergencies.
Perform related duties as assigned to ensure efficient unit operation.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with special needs students preferred.
- CPR Certificate required.
- First Aid Certificate required.
- QBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Maintained certificates and licenses.
- Criminal background clearance.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Physical demands include heavy lifting, frequent stooping, kneeling, and prolonged standing (10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing). Minimum temperature variation; potential injury or illness risks.
Employment DetailsPosition Type: 6.75 hours per day – Non‑Exempt.
