- Latin is not an elective at Great Hearts, but part of the core curriculum. All Great Hearts students study Latin from 6th through 8th grade, and several continue in the classics track in high school, with advanced Latin and Ancient Greek (others study a modern language for four years of high school). Many academies offer Latin at K‑5 as well.
- Latin provides an essential foundation for our academies’ focus on the Western tradition through its incorporation of history and culture.
- Rigorous and detailed Latin lessons will develop students that can translate texts from the original Latin to English through Socratic discussion.
- Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
- Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
- Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home‑school partnerships.
- Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
- Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role
- Certification is not required for general education
- All majors are welcome
US work authorization is required, but we do accept OPT/CPT candidates.
Employment ConditionsEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
Travel RequiredMay need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
