Lunch Monitor

The Lunch Monitor supervises students and assists in the cafeteria during lunch and/or recess. Essential duties and responsibilities also apply when lunch area(s) occur in a designated locale outside the regular cafeteria eating area where there may be exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Food Handler's Card
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • MMR and TB Vaccinations
  • CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge of the English language
  • Ability to comprehend and perform functions from oral and written instructions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working/dealing with others
  • Must have strong decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Must be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical health
  • Prior work experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Bilingual is preferred
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor student behavior during lunch periods
  • Instruct students regarding orderly movement while in the cafeteria
  • Assist students to ensure that they are safely seated in the cafeteria
  • Assist young students or students with special needs with packaged lunch items; such as milk containers, juice boxes, etc.
  • Assist young students or students with special needs with napkins, utensils, condiments, etc.
  • Observe conduct and behavior of students to prevent disturbances in the cafeteria
  • Diffuse situations and/or conflicts between students
  • Prepare referrals on students and reports misconduct to supervisor
  • May use radio to communicate with school office
  • Inform supervisor of damages to school property
  • Participate in district sponsored professional development workshops/in services, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional development
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or information
  • Support and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school and the District
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal or his/her designee

Length of Employment:

  • Nine (9) months
  • School calendar will determine the days worked during the school year
