Job SummarySouth Mountain Community College is hiring a Student Services Analyst (Academic Advisor) to guide students toward success. The analyst will provide personalized support in course selection, registration, transfer pathways, academic goals, and connect students with resources. The role will drive student success initiatives such as Guided Pathways and lead training sessions. The analyst will also engage in outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts and analyze program data to improve advising strategies.
EssentialFunctions
- 45% – Provide professional, end‑to‑end academic advising to a caseload of students, including one‑on‑one and group advising; guide students in goal setting, degree options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, and academic progress using People Soft; identify extracurricular opportunities and advise on resources; conduct proactive follow‑ups and monitor performance.
- 25% – Support change management for Guided Pathways; serve as an institutional resource; collaborate with academic units and student services; coordinate with partners; develop and deliver training for faculty and staff; interpret policies; supervise undergraduate student workers.
- 15% – Research program opportunities, industry trends, and emerging technologies; coordinate projects on student learning, success, and retention; lead outreach, recruitment, and retention; engage student organizations; develop program resources and promotional materials.
- 15% – Develop and assess student learning outcomes; conduct evaluations, analyze data, measure effectiveness, and recommend program improvements.
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties, unless otherwise required by law.
- Master's Degree in Academic Advising, Education, Counseling, Sociology or related field.
- One (1) or more years of providing academic or career advising in a college or university setting.
- One (1) or more years experience with Guided Pathways and Fields of Interest (meta‑majors).
- One (1) or more years experience working with cohorts of students in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
- Experience using online student information systems (e.g., People Soft).
