Instructional Assistant – Kenilworth Elementary

KENILWORTH – Phoenix, Arizona

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $16.66 to $19.74 per hour (26/27 SY)

Title Funded: 2026/2027 School Year

Condition of Employment: All new hires must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Job Description

The Instructional Assistant supports classroom teachers in implementing instructional programs, working directly with children in small groups or one‑to‑one.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize district technologies and attend required training to perform assigned duties.
  • Assist teacher with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
  • Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures.
  • Supervise and instruct children during activities such as copying, cutting, coloring, and constructing bulletin board materials.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with state law and district policies.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Anticipate and manage crises associated with large groups of children.
  • Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce teacher‑taught skills.
  • Serve snacks and lunches as required.
  • Attend workshops as directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises children in the classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent of two (2) years of college education (60 semester hours) or passing test results from the Para Pro or Work Keys assessment.
  • Prefer prior experience working with children.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Write reports and business correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, maintenance staff, and external business contacts.
  • Pass proficiency test in Math, Reading and Grammar with a score of 75% or better.
  • Support academic and behavior management for students.
  • Show patience when working with children.
  • Learn new skills, be flexible, and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Follow written and oral directions and complete assignments.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents and staff.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Solve practical problems and manage situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic or scheduled form.
OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Perform duties respecting all district requirements and School Board policies.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions. May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision to read handwritten or typed material; ability to adjust focus. Must meet multiple concurrent demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level is low to moderate. The work environment is typical of a classroom setting, requiring interaction with students and staff. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
