PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING SPECIALIST Salary: $56,455.98 - $75,958.06

Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Driving Instructor vacancies. Manages one or more aspects of a training and development program. This may include determining training needs for law enforcement troopers, developing curriculum for Arizona POST training and in‑service training programs, coordinating training, evaluating program effectiveness, developing and administering a training program, developing and implementing an employee career mobility program, and instructing Arizona POST training courses.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven years of professional‑level law enforcement experience as an Arizona POST‑certified peace officer. Requires Arizona POST General Instructor certification. Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license.

Working Conditions

Work setting may include office, classroom, firearms range, driving track, training mat, or other proficiency training venues. May be required to lift or carry up to 60 pounds of training equipment.

Additional Requirements

Statewide travel may be required to perform certain work functions.

Progression to the next step requires an overall performance rating of at least Standard in the last 12 months.

Must successfully complete the examination process.

Pre‑Employment Requirements

Applicants must complete an examination process. A polygraph and background investigation are required for successful applicants. DPS supports a drug‑free work environment through pre‑employment drug testing. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply:
Driver’s license requirements. All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).

Retirement

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State-sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long‑Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27‑week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for lifelong income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax‑deferred retirement investments.
