The Pre‑Kindergarten Substitute Lead Teacher provides a caring, safe, and well‑managed environment for children to participate in learning activities and imaginative play.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The teacher will provide instruction in basic skills such as color, shape, number, and letter recognition as well as social skills. The Lead Teacher establishes clear objectives for all lessons, prepares, organizes, and leads instruction in all activities, evaluates children’s academic performance and social development, and communicates with parents and guardians about progress. The Lead Teacher ensures enforcement of all district policies and rules regarding Pre‑Kindergarten programs, oversees meal and snack service in accordance with nutritional guidelines, and performs administrative duties such as attending staff meetings, preparing student progress reports, supervising teacher assistants, and conducting inventory of equipment and supplies.

DUTIES &

ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR SUBSTITUTE PRE‑K TEACHER
  • Develop and implement fun and age‑appropriate activities and lessons for young children.
  • Create daily lesson plans tailored to the needs of preschoolers.
  • Assist children individually or in small groups with various learning activities such as reading stories, writing, and practicing language, numbers, and alphabet skills.
  • Adapt classroom activities and materials to support learning objectives and classroom goals.
  • Provide support during lunchtime, toileting, and other daily routines.
  • Encourage and demonstrate proper cleanup behavior after lunch and other activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including sanitizing tables and keeping records.
  • Prepare instructional materials like laminated resources, posters, copies, and bulletin boards.
  • Foster a nurturing and secure environment for young students.
  • Report observations and incidents involving students to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers, encouraging their participation and involvement.
  • Assist families with transitions from home to school and between different classroom settings.
  • Supervise students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Keep Teacher Assistants informed about classroom activities, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to classroom staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Food Handlers Card/Certification.
  • Valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and a clean criminal background check.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Five days availability.
  • Six months or more of experience in an early childhood setting.
  • Positive interaction with all students and a safe learning environment.
  • Capacity to design lesson plans that meet student needs and state requirements.
  • Ability to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices in curriculum delivery.
  • Identification of individual student needs.
  • Strong communication skills with students, coworkers, administration, and parents.
  • Collaboration with other teachers and school staff.
  • Flexible work schedule and professional appearance.
  • Commitment to professional development and educational improvement.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Carrying out duties that may include sitting for long periods, standing, kneeling, stooping, and prolonged concentration.
  • Local and in‑state travel required.
