SUMMARY

The Native American Student Advisor provides supplementary services to eligible Native American students within the Native American Education Program. Works directly with students, parents, campus resource services, local tribes, and community resource agencies to meet the cultural and academic needs of students, including but not limited to attendance and academic intervention and support. These efforts create a supportive and inclusive environment that honors and respects the cultural identity of Native American students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Facilitates meaningful experiences to enrich students' academic, cultural, and personal development including providing guidance, information, and support to students, parents, and staff to keep students on track to graduate and achieve program goals.

* Assists in compiling and maintaining documents related to individual student tribal enrollment and certification of eligibility and reports it to district and state student information systems. May conduct home visits when needed for documents district wide and in surrounding tribal communities.

* Monitors student attendance and academic progress; initiates referrals for student supports and interventions; updates credits earned. Maintains current knowledge of support services available from campus, district, community, and tribal resources. Acts as a liaison between parents, students, and outside services, facilitating communication and collaboration to ensure that students receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs.

* Develops and implements a schedule of contacts with individual students for the purpose of providing appropriate assistance programs, including but not limited to monitoring student school attendance and academic progress, monitoring student four-year educational plan, and assisting junior and senior students with college admission, financial aid, processing course fees, obtaining school supplies and post-secondary plans. Follows up with students regularly.

* Develops and implements a sustainable system for communication through scheduling contacts with parents of eligible Native American students, including home visits, phone calls, virtual meetings, quarterly parent executive committee meetings, and monthly general parent meetings. Facilitates written and verbal communications, such as newsletters, direct calls, social media posts, and flyers throughout the school year informing parents about campus procedures, events, and support services.

Travels across the school district to conduct home visits and other in-person school and community organization meetings. Presents and facilitates student/parent workshops and meetings at different school sites. Follows up with parents and families regularly through verbal and written communication.

* Collects, maintains, and assists in the interpretation of program-related data; produces and disseminates related reports for assigned campuses.

* Assists in co-sponsoring organizations (e.g., Native American Youth Councils/Clubs) related to program goals. Recruits staff to participate in youth events and councils. The Advisor also fosters cultural connections by organizing and participating in events such as community and campus-based events, cultural heritage celebrations, and educational workshops on Native American history and traditions.

* Supports district wide recruitment and promotion of the Native American Education Program, ensuring its visibility and accessibility to the community and local and tribal feeder districts. Participates in District activities at multiple sites (e.g., workshops and in-services) that focus on providing supplementary services to students; including planning and assisting with student and parent events such as but not limited to college and career nights, future freshmen nights, open houses, and Native American program convocation celebrations.

Collaborates with early college programs and co-facilitates events with Native community organizations.

* Organizes, co-organizes, and chaperones field trips, both in-state and out-of-state, to colleges, student conferences, and academic and cultural workshops for Native American students. Coordinates logistical arrangements, including transportation, accommodations, and itinerary planning. Ensures compliance with safety protocols and supervises students while maintaining strong communication with parents/guardians and staff during the trips.
