Non Interim Position

Purpose

The Counselor supports the instructional process by implementing ASCA National Standards for Students, managing student schedules and placement, providing curriculum information and recommendations to students and parents, and assisting in setting goals and achievement plans. Reports to Site Administrator.

• Analyze transcripts to ensure graduation requirements compliance.
• Assist students in developing their Educational/Career Action Plan (ECAP) to support high school and postsecondary goals.
• Assist students with financial aid, college materials, applications, online registration, scholarships, etc., to secure financial aid for post‑graduation opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal and external personnel (colleges, middle schools, site personnel) to maintain services and programs.
• Coordinate with teachers, college/university personnel, and community resources to provide information and recommendations.
• Counsel students, parents, and guardians (crisis, social-emotional, academic counseling, NCAA advisement, etc.) to enhance student success.
• Develop and implement special programs and activities (e.g., College Night, Peer Tutoring Program, PVCC Day, Senior Awards Night, Freshman Orientation, Financial Aid Night) to facilitate college and career transitions.
• Monitor student progress (classroom grades, PVONLINE, dual enrollment) to identify issues and take action.
• Participate in IEP, RED, MET, 504 meetings as needed to convey or gather information.
• Prepare materials (correspondences, scholarship information, new student packets, surveys, newsletters) to document activities and communicate information.
• Present information on Career Readiness, Career Exploration, Scholarships, AVID, PVONLINE to inform and gather feedback.
• Proctor standardized assessments (AIMS, PSAT, PLAN, ASVAB, AP exams) to ensure exam integrity.
• Report health and safety issues to administrators/appropriate agencies to maintain safety and comply with regulations.
• Research program eligibility requirements (financial aid, college eligibility) for up-to-date counseling.
• Respond to inquiries from internal and external parties to provide information and facilitate communication.
• Schedule student classes to ensure appropriate placement and meet graduation/college eligibility.
• Supervise assigned programs (Peer Mediation, Teen AA, Peer Tutoring) to monitor performance and achieve objectives.

• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.

• Education:
  
  Master’s degree in a related area.
• Experience:
  
  Job-related experience preferred.
• Arizona Department of Education Counseling Certificate;
  Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card;
  Criminal Background Clearance.
