Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher (High School)

Star Autism Academy is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and energetic Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher to lead a classroom serving students with autism and developmental disabilities in our level 7 high school program. The ideal candidate is an honest, trustworthy, and self‑starting educator who is passionate about helping every student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This teacher will work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and families to deliver individualized instruction and support.

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student in accordance with state guidelines
• Plan, adapt, and deliver daily instruction in academic, behavioral, and life skills
• Use data‑driven decision‑making to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals and therapy staff to ensure integrated support for all students
• Provide leadership and training to classroom support staff
• Implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and individualized behavior plans
• Create a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student growth and needs
• Complete timely documentation, including lesson plans, reports, and student records
• Physically assist students as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds to support transfers or ensure safety
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field
• Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate (or in progress)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and move quickly as needed
• Strong classroom management and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Reliable, organized, and committed to collaboration
• Must pass a background check and fingerprint clearance

• Experience teaching students with autism and/or behavioral needs
• Familiarity with ABA principles, structured teaching, or other evidence‑based interventions
• Proficiency in writing IEPs and using data for instructional planning
• Training in crisis management (e.g., Handle with Care or CPI)
