Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional, Special Education Assistant
Reg/Spec Ed. Para-Pro/Instructional Assistant – $16.00–$19.30 per hour. Traditional school year position. Must have a two‑year degree or higher, 60 college credit hours, or a passing score on the specialized test (Para‑pro, Work Keys, etc.). Computer knowledge preferred but not required. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently. Ability to assist teacher in oral assessment of home language level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Administers, scores, and records achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Directs individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Coordinates with the teacher to devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interest, and abilities.
- Supervises independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Evaluates notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.
- Directs large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and other language enrichment activities.
- Provides information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Orients the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Has experience with special needs students.
- Has experience with reading and following IEPs.
- Assists with daily living skills.
- Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Computer knowledge preferred but not required.
- Ability to assist teacher in oral assessment of home language level.
- Two‑year degree or actively pursuing post‑secondary education.
- Preferred ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently.

The employee must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel, or reach; employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast‑paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
