Position Highlights

The Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Arizona College of Medicine
- Phoenix invites talented academic scientists to apply for this outstanding career faculty opportunity. The successful applicant will have expertise in tissue procurement and development of patient-derived organoid technology. The individual will spend 90% of their time in research related activities, including collaborative team-based science, service to investigative efforts of the department, directing tissue procurement efforts and training students and technicians.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine, actively participate in scholarly work, teaching, service and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant professor.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of career-track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Directtissue procurement effort for the Department.
  • Develop processes, procedures and a collaborative research program in the field of3D organoid biology.
  • Expandcollaborative efforts with the University of Arizona biomedical scientist sand physician scientists in the development of organoids relevant tocancer, lung disease, and liver disease.
  • Develophuman precision cut lung and liver slice model systems.
  • Performtissue histology, staining, and quantification.
  • Organizetissue bank collection of FPPE, fresh frozen, and organoid samples.
  • Participate in both training of students and technicians.
  • Participateas a productive member of the Department and the College through impactfulscholarly work and good citizenship.
  • Additional dutiesas assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Holda PhD in related field of study from an accredited institution.
  • Havepost-doctoral training and/or experience commensurate with appointment atthe rank of a assistant professor.
  • Demonstratescholarly accomplishment in research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate experience in cancer, lung, or liver organoid development.
  • Have current funding in the area of 3D organoid biology.
  • Demonstrate experience in cancer (preferred melanoma, pancreatic cancer, GI cancers or lung cancer).
  • Show experience investigating fibrotic diseases and drug development approaches.
  • Demonstrate experience studying fibroblast biology and/or cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs).
