Purpose Statement
The job of Substitute – Certified is done for the purpose of managing student learning in the absence of the regular teacher in accordance with the goals and directives of the District, either on a temporary or long-term basis.
This position reports to Site Administrator.
Essential Functions- Maintains a positive learning environment for all students and a professional relationship with all staff in accordance with district policy.
- Reviews all lesson plans, duties and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Teaches the outlined lesson plan, maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for managing student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Reports health and safety issues to administration (e.g. fights, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety and a positive learning environment.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Completes daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information to teacher at the end of the day.
- Creates lesson plans, attends various meetings (parent, IEP, staff), and does grading if assigned to a long-term position.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
Skills are required to be a person fully qualified to instruct in our schools in the absence of the regular teacher. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; teaching Arizona State recognized standards; maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge is required to read technical information and implement; facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include appropriate policies, regulations and/or laws; lesson plan requirements; and behavioral management strategies.
Ability is required to implement lesson plans; and use job related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; and exhibiting tact and patience.
Working under limited supervision; fulfilling the responsibilities of the regular teacher as outlined in the lesson plans; and remaining in assigned classroom until students have been dismissed for the day.
Work EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
ExperienceEducation:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate and/or Arizona Teaching Certificate.
ClearancesCriminal Background Clearance.
