Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with teachers, support staff, and school administrators. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)/restraint certification, First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training course completed at first available offering by District. High school diploma preferred or equivalent.

JOB GOAL:
To help ensure English Learner (EL) students attain English language proficiency and meet state academic standards by providing effective language instruction that meets students’ unique needs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to local, state, and federal guidelines and timelines pertaining to English Language Education for Children in Public Schools which include student identification, assessment, and instruction.
- Implements instructional programs designed to help EL students achieve both English language proficiency and academic standards in reading, writing, language arts, mathematics, and science.
- Instructs EL students in groups or individually, with lesson assignments, reinforcing learning concepts.
- Maintains EL student progress for the purpose of assisting EL students in improving English proficiency and academic achievement.
- Consults with teachers, administrators and colleagues as may be required (e.g. selecting materials to be used, implementing lesson plans) regarding EL English proficiency and academic achievement.
- Supports EL students by addressing concerns related to EL students such as special information, special learning needs, cultural appreciation, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information regarding EL English proficiency and academic achievement.
- Provides EL support by identifying students eligible for English proficiency testing based on the Primary Home Language Other Than English (PHLOTE) survey.
- Provides EL support by administering assessments as needed for the purpose of assisting EL students in improving English proficiency and academic achievement.
- Provides EL support by creating appropriate paperwork, obtaining signatures, and maintaining various English Learner records [e.g. PHLOTE survey, Parent Notification Form (PNF), EL profile card, lesson plans, attendance records] for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and support with ensuring EL students attain English language proficiency and meet state academic standards.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
