Job Title: Instructional Assistant

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Supervised By: Curriculum Director

Classification: Full-Time, 10-month contract

Directly Supervises: None

Qualifications
  • Education – High school diploma or equivalency and an AA degree or 60 hours of college credits or a passing score on a paraprofessional test.
  • Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and extensive background check.
  • Experience - Previous experience in working with students with physical and learning needs preferred.
Job Summary

The instructional assistant will support lead teachers by preparing learning materials, supervising students, and providing small-group or one-on-one academic help.

Skills And Abilities
  • English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators of the targeted community.
  • Able to work with detail and have patience and understanding of the basic learning process.
  • Good emotional and physical health.
  • Able to bend, lift 40 pounds, and stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Position Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support:
    Tutor individual students or small groups to reinforce core lessons.
  • Classroom Prep:
    Organize learning materials, set up equipment, and prepare visual aids.
  • Student Supervision:
    Monitor students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds.
  • Behavior Management:
    Help enforce classroom rules and encourage positive student behavior.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    Take attendance, grade assignments, and organize student paperwork.
  • Special Accommodations:
    Help implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for special education students. (When applicable and directed by the lead teacher)

    Collaboration:

    Discuss student progress and daily lesson plans with the lead teacher.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

Newly appointed employees will be subject to an initial ninety (90) calendar day probation period.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, operate a computer, sit, and occasionally to reach with hands and arms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a classroom environment, playground, cafeteria and overall school campus. This role routinely walks, reaches, moves around classroom furniture and guides students. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud noise.
