The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University—one of the nation's premier mass communication schools—seeks a high school engagement coordinator. Working as part of a dedicated student recruitment team, this role focuses on building and strengthening partnerships with high schools to create a robust pipeline of future media leaders. The coordinator will engage and recruit prospective first‑year students through dynamic in‑person presentations and relationship‑building across Arizona and beyond.

During the academic year, the coordinator will travel throughout Maricopa County and across Arizona (and sometimes, beyond it) to high schools, delivering compelling classroom presentations, engaging scholastic media groups and tabling at events to inspire students to pursue media careers through the Cronkite School. The coordinator also serves as the lead of Camp Cronkite, managing all aspects of the summer enrichment program for high schoolers including year‑round logistics, planning, outreach and the application process.

During the summer, the coordinator will lead multiple week‑long residential sessions of Camp Cronkite, serving as the primary point of contact and energy source for participating students.

The successful candidate genuinely enjoys meeting new people and easily builds authentic relationships with prospective students as well as the adults (high school teachers, administrators and families) who support them. They thrive on variety and enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment; are as comfortable presenting to an auditorium full of students as they are managing detailed logistics; and can coordinate and complete tasks both independently and collaboratively.

The effective coordinator naturally connects with prospective students in a poised, informative and enthusiastic manner, articulating why a Cronkite education opens doors to exciting media careers while being responsive to their needs and concerns.

The coordinator will spend significant time on the road, traveling throughout Arizona to high schools to build relationships with prospective students and school officials; they also travel at least four times a year to national youth media conventions, representing and recruiting for the Cronkite School. We seek a passionate, energetic professional with an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for media who embraces extensive travel, excels at both relationship management and event coordination, and is committed to fostering a welcoming environment for our future students.

Ultimately, the high school engagement coordinator assumes responsibility for the unit's relationships with high schools and high schoolers across the country, and collaboratively helps drive strategic enrollment at the Cronkite School.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Arizona high schools, CTE programs and other youth activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with educational and career opportunities in media, communications, journalism and/or PR.
