Teaching Assistants, Preschool

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education.

S/hemust be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the Lead Teacher in implementing a quality, play-based program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents . The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate, experiential activities based on children’s interests and needs under the policies of Shadow Rock Preschool.

• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, playground, and bathrooms.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to help reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Teach social skills to students.
• Diaper children as needed.
• Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
• Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to preschool.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
• Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using art, hands-on experiences and reading aloud.
• Clean classrooms.
• Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
• Organize and label materials and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
• Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
• Attend staff meetings and attend family nights, as required.
• Conduct demonstrations to teach skills, such as sports, dancing, and handicrafts..
• Take class attendance.
• Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems.
• Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids.

• Professional child care experience a plus.
• Minimum of high school diploma.
• Reliable and on time.
• High energy.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• A strong understanding of child development.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification a plus.
• Current food handler’s card a plus
• Current fingerprint clearance card a plus
• Must clear full background check.
• Must pass health screening.
• Able to lift 25 pounds.

• For interested employees, the preschool will pay for CDA classes with a commitment of 2 years at Shadow Rock Preschool after earning the CDA./
• Schedules can be flexible ranging from 23 hrs/week up to 35 hrs/week if employee is scheduled to work in the before and after care programs at the preschool.
• Admin works hard to make sure employees have coverage for their children's school events when needed.
