General Statement:

The Supervisor of Camp Zoo & Family Programs is an ambassador and educator for the ACNC/Phoenix Zoo. The Supervisor is responsible for modeling, creating and maintaining a team culture that demonstrates the ACNC/Phoenix Zoo’s Core Values. This position hires, trains and supervises the full-time Camp Programs Assistant and Camp Programs Coordinator, as well as the part-time seasonal Camp Zoo instructor team (day camp) .

They are accountable for efficient and effective logistical operations of Camp Zoo and Family P rograms. Th ey oversee the creation of curriculum and schedules for age-appropriate educational programs about the natural world for campers ages 5-15 , early childhood ages 0- 5 and other special events for all ages .

The Supervisor of Camp Zoo & Family Programs partners with the Supervisor of Night Camps to support all camp programming and develop an instructor team culture that represents the Core Values of the Phoenix Zoo. They are cross-trained in Night Camp Program responsibilities, with an emphasis on supporting Night Camp operations during busy season (Feb-Apr).

This position requires a flexible and varied schedule that includes:

  • Daytime shifts during the Summer Camp Zoo season (June-July) and Seasonal programming (school holidays).
  • Semi-regular weekend availability to support Family programming.
  • Semi-regular evening availability to support Night Camp programming.
  • All mandatory meetings and training.
  • Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance .
  • Help create and maintain a team culture that reflects the ACNC/Zoo Core Values (accountability, collaboration, fun, initiative, and respect), serving as a role model and supporting others in developing and demonstrating these values.
  • Supervise Family Programs and Camp Zoo Instructor staff and volunteers , which includes hiring, schedule management and daily oversight, in addition to providing training, coaching and professional development.
  • Consistently observe programs to provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback which will inform annual evaluations for all regular team members.
  • Ensure program logistics are coordinated with internal and external partners.
