About the PositionThe Aviation Mechanic provides routine maintenance and repair on all office owned and operated fixed wing and rotorcraft aircraft with a heavy emphasis on the rotorcraft experience. The Aviation Mechanic is responsible for ensuring safety for both the general public and the Sheriff s Office pilot core, all the while meeting the Federal Aviation Administration standards and regulations.

PositionQualifications

Education- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Possession of a current Mechanic s license with airframe and power plant ratings issued by the FAA.
- Three (3) years of experience of repair and maintenance of rotorcraft/helicopter aircraft.
- Knowledge and experience working with both piston and turbine powered aircraft.
- Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.
- Must possess a current mechanic s license with airframe and power plant ratings as issued by the FAA.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver s license.
- Training with the exception of Arizona driver s license to be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; OSHA training; ADP payroll training; PREA training
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700;
Safety;
Payroll; PREA. - Prior to hiring, the Sheriff s Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
- Bell Helicopter Factory School Training and/or experience maintaining Bell 407, Bell 429 or other Bell Helicopters.
- Current FAA Inspection Authorization and/or Arizona CDL with Hazmat certification.

- Performs routine maintenance and repairs on fixed wing and rotorcraft owned by MCSO.
- Conducts periodic inspections and returns office aircraft to operational service.
- Operates precision measuring devices and special tools.
- Orders, retrieves, and maintains stock of spare parts and supplies for aircraft.
- Maintains aircraft maintenance records.
- Documents aircraft parts and component records.
- Provides and sustains organization of hangar and office area.
- Performs routine fuel samples on office fuel trailers and trucks.
- Maintains valid mechanic s license with airframe and power plant ratings required by FAA.
- Performs necessary steps to obtain inspection authorization for the FAA within the first three years of employment.
- Participates in on-call calendar to report to work outside regular work hours for unscheduled aircraft maintenance.
- Be present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and assigned by the Supervisor.
