Safety Engineer – Intermediate
Our client, a Material Engineering company, is looking for a Safety Engineer – Intermediate for their Phoenix, AZ location.
Responsibilities:- Safety Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, tsmc, and client safety requirements by communicating expectations and enforcing standards across all client employees working in the fab.
- Hazard Identification and Intervention
- Proactively identify hazards, verify controls, and intervene to correct unsafe conditions and behaviors in real-time to prevent incidents.
- "Boots-on-the-Ground" Safety
- Maintain a strong field presence as visible safety leaders, embedding safety into daily operations.
- Work Execution Support
- Support safe work planning and execution through direct employee engagement.
- Maintain a strong field presence (required to spend a minimum 4 hours per day in the fab)
- Participate in morning pass-downs with the engineering teams to understand work activities for the day and reinforce important safety messaging.
- Audit work activities performed by client engineers for safety compliance against OSHA, tsmc and client standards.
- Audit all Applied workers, work areas, and laydown/storage areas for 6S compliance.
- Actively identify hazards and assist with the implementation of immediate corrective actions.
- Provide real-time guidance to client employees and subcontractors.
- Provide oversight during high-risk work tasks to prevent incidents.
- Review and sign off on daily inspection forms.
- Confirm required permits, PPE, and controls are implemented prior to the start of work.
- Intervene and stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
- Document audit results into the client inspection platform.
- Communicate issues and violations with the Safety Engineer or Manager that cannot be resolved otherwise.
- 5 years of industrial, construction, or manufacturing experience
- OSHA 30-Hour for Construction or General Industry (must provide proof)
- Ability to identify hazards and assist with implementation of corrective actions
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to spend up to 6+ hours a day in the cleanroom, comfortable wearing a cleanroom suit, and spending majority of their day on their feet / walking.
- 5 years of safety experience (ideally in manufacturing or semiconductor)
- EHS Certification (e.g., CHST, OHST, ASP, or GSP)
- Science-related degree
- OSHA 510 or 511
