Nex Gen is looking to add a Chief Estimator to the Steel Division in Phoenix, Arizona
!

Responsibilities
  • The Chief Estimator manages the overall bid process for estimating steel projects assigned to the Steel Division, pursuing projects throughout pre-proposal and proposal cycles.
  • Prepare detailed estimates of structural steel projects, including labor, equipment, and material fabrication costs.
  • Maintain Building Connected bid invitations, create bid invites to vendors and suppliers, update bid information, and submit proposals through Building Connected or other required portals.
  • Work closely with the Business Unit Leader, General Superintendent, Safety Department, and Quality Manager to develop bid strategies, resource availability, vendor relationships, safety requirements, quality requirements, and project schedules to provide a comprehensive estimate.
  • Update bid logs in , Steel Division folders, Bid Status logs in Excel, and other required logs or related documents.
  • Understand erection requirements and procedures to provide accurate cost estimates for crane selection, rigging, bracing, and general erection of structural and miscellaneous steel.
  • Travel to project sites for preconstruction and construction visits as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or a minimum of ten years’ experience in the construction industry, with at least five years in commercial structural steel or miscellaneous metals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to create accurate and punctual reports, deliver presentations, and share information clearly.
  • Ability to identify critical elements of a situation, interpret implications, and attend to details.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; experience motivating and developing subordinates and encouraging process improvements.
  • Knowledge of design principles and engineering specifications related to structural steel.
  • Proficiency with software for structural steel design and estimation (e.g., Tekla, E-Takeoff, Sage, Stack).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and other technical documents; understanding of basic geometry and trigonometry; ability to calculate loads and stresses on structural steel members.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience with construction scheduling and commercial structural steel projects.
