Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 8+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
MSSD has an opening in Structural Analysis for an experienced engineer to function as a Structures technical lead in support of Propulsion and APU engines. Applicant must address stress, strength, vibration, heat transfer, deflection, fatigue life, containment, material selection, etc. in evaluating various structural parts. Typical static structural parts include cases, frames, plenums, mounts, inlets, stators, vanes, shrouds, diffusers, deswirls, gearboxes, bearing supports, and ducts.
Candidate must be capable of analyzing various structures and assemblies to ensure structural integrity, and have very good understanding of LCF and HCF life analysis techniques. Candidate must be able to define and perform development, and certification stress and vibration structural testing. Ability to define, manage, and review domestic and global resources in performing analyses. Analytical results will be presented in design reviews and with appropriate documentation to meet program deliverables and requirements.
Applicant must work effectively with design teams, global support, and chief engineers. Travel to various industry trade shows and forums to stay abreast of advancements will be likely.
Basic Qualifications:
- BSME degree
- Min 5 year knowledge of the gas turbine engine industry
- Min 10 years experience in Stress and dynamic analysis
- 3D modeling (CAD) and FEA (ANSYS, etc.) of gas turbine engine static structures and systems
- Due to ITAR requirements, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree with 15 years in Stress and dynamic analysis
- Good working knowledge of NASTRAN /PATRAN analytical tool knowledge
- Manufacturing and Analysis Knowledge for composite and Part 25 components is a plus.
