Enstall is seeking an inventive Innovation Engineer, a creative Mechanical Engineer with strong user-centered design skills and experience developing new ideas, to work on its industry leading commercial and residential system solar products in our Phoenix innovation and product development lab. The ideal candidate will create new and exciting products supporting our vision “A world with solar on every roof top”, discover unmet customer needs and new business opportunities, ask deep probing questions, embrace uncertainties, and create exciting new value differentiated concepts providing significant growth for Enstall brands.

You will work in a supportive and empowering culture within a dynamic product development team. Working cross-functionally with customers, product management, marketing, testing, sales, sourcing, and other areas of the company

What You'll Do
  • Understand customer needs through primary and secondary research, curiosity, customer interaction and Product Management.
  • Generate and present wide-ranging concepts to meet customer and business needs using brainstorming, sketches, quick mockups, rapid iteration, fast CAD, and other techniques.
  • Apply sound processes to manage uncertainties, including prototyping, to verify function and customer acceptance.
  • Develop designs using 3D CAD, fast prototyping, and cross-functional input.
  • Perform R&D activities focused on the next generation of racking and mounting for solar modules.
  • Perform all other duties as required.
What You'll Bring
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (must have strong mechanical design skills). Or degree in Industrial Design, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering etc. (must have strong user centered design and creative skills).
  • 3+ years of work experience in an innovative new product environment (product concept development, new product innovation, strategic design)
  • A Strong understanding of product development and innovation processes
  • A proactive and collaborative team-oriented mindset and approach to creativity, innovation, and concept development
  • Experience working in a front-end innovation focused research and design function, creating new and differentiated products with user centered design methodologies.
  • Experience designing with various manufacturing processes such as extrusion, casting, die-casting, cold heading, and stampings using materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel, Injection molded plastic materials.
  • Ability to rapidly create a large number of valid concepts, critically evaluate and iterate ideas.
  • Strong mechanical component design, 3D modeling, and drawing skills, preferably Solid Works.
  • Hands on practical approach with ability to use workshop equipment and various hand tools to build mockups and prototypes.
  • Ability to assess usability, fit, form and function, and effect on product requirements.
  • Up to 20% travel, including occasional international travel.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience developing and launching products for outdoor use requiring structural and electrical performance over the designed lifetime.
  • Experience with creative workshops and brainstorming sessions.
  • Experience designing tactile mechanisms and interactive assemblies.
  • Ability to create production-level drawings and source prototypes.
  • Experience using machine tools such as mill, lathe, and EDM
  • Construction and building experience.
  • Experience with UL requirements, product certification and ISO
  • Experience filing patent disclosures and intellectual property.
Where You'll Be

This position is 80-100% on-site in Phoenix, AZ (at least 4 days in office is required).
