Job Title: OSP Engineer – Underground Fiber

OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Underground Fiber OSP Engineer to support the design, documentation, permitting, and field execution of underground fiber network projects. This role focuses exclusively on fiber and exclusively on underground plant - no aerial work. The ideal candidate brings strong field surveying skills, deep understanding of underground construction methods, and the ability to engineer fiber routes that comply with all client, utility, and municipal requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Engineer underground fiber routes including trenching, boring, micro-duct, conduit, and handhole/manhole placement.
- Conduct detailed field surveys of underground paths, utilities, ROW conditions, and construction constraints.
- Develop construction designs and OSP work packages using CAD/GIS platforms.
- Coordinate with construction teams, permitting agencies, and utility owners.
- Verify and document existing underground facilities and resolve routing conflicts.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, local codes, and all internal engineering standards.
- Prepare permitting documentation, BOMs, construction notes, and detailed drawings.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining schedules and documentation accuracy.
- Create redlines, as-builts, and updated records post-construction.
- 3-5+ years experience in underground fiber OSP engineering
. - Strong understanding of underground construction methods: directional boring, trenching, micro trenching, conduit placement.
- Experience performing underground field surveys and validating utility paths.
- Proficiency with CAD/GIS tools (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Vetro, etc.).
- Ability to read utility maps, as-builts, splicing documentation, and fiber route designs.
- Knowledge of municipal permitting processes and ROW requirements.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience with Metro Fiber, FTTH, and large-scale commercial underground fiber builds.
- Background working with permitting authorities, landowners, or utility providers.
- Experience with major fiber providers or OSP contracting environments.
- Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 – $43.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
