Senior Data Engineer (Azure / Financial Systems)

Corner Stone Technology Talent Services is partnering with a large, established organization on a contract-to-hire opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to support a mission-critical financial system. This role is a planned backfill for a senior technical resource and is positioned for long-term ownership and continuity. This is a hands-on senior role, not a purely advisory position. The ideal candidate will design, build, and support enterprise-scale data pipelines and data models while helping mature foundational data practices in a stable, regulated environment.

The Senior Data Engineer will serve as a core technical contributor responsible for designing and supporting enterprise data pipelines, data models, and integrations that power a large financial platform. This role blends data engineering execution with data architecture responsibilities, including performance optimization, data quality, and long-term scalability.

You will work closely with application teams, business stakeholders, and technical leadership while operating within an established team structure.

• Design and maintain logical and physical data models supporting enterprise financial systems
• Build, enhance, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and system integrations
• Support cloud and hybrid data platforms with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability
• Improve data quality, lineage, and governance practices
• Troubleshoot complex data and pipeline issues and deliver durable solutions
• Collaborate with engineering, application, and business teams on enhancements and modernization
• Contribute to data architecture standards, documentation, and technical roadmaps

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering and/or data architecture roles
• Proven experience supporting enterprise-scale financial or regulated systems
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• SQL and data modeling (logical & physical)
• Cloud or hybrid data platforms
• Experience working in structured environments with established processes
• Ability to operate independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams

• Experience modernizing or migrating data platforms (on-prem → cloud)
• Background in public-sector or financial services data systems
• Exposure to data governance, lineage, and enterprise data standards
• Experience supporting long-lived, mission-critical platforms
