Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Technician to help grow our contaminated site assessment and remediation services in Phoenix or Tucson, Arizona offices. The position is ideal for individuals who enjoy both independent and team-based work in a variety of settings, with an emphasis on measuring and monitoring contamination in the environment. This position is a great opportunity for the technically-minded who are interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields.

In this role, you will compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data; perform a variety of multi-media sampling efforts; oversee environmental and remediation construction projects; perform operation and maintenance (O&M) for a variety of small and large water and soil treatment systems, and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public-sector client base.

You will work on your own or as a part of a larger field support team on site-specific project tasks. The ability and willingness to work outdoors, perform extensive fieldwork, and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required. An interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-media sampling (collection of soil, water, and air samples) in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection projects.
  • Perform O&M of remediation systems (e.g. groundwater extraction and treatment, soil vapor extraction, and others).
  • Monitor contractor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.).
  • Provide CQA observation and monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites.
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports.
  • Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures.
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation.
  • Assist in the preparation of the final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices.
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.
  • Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.
  • Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Senior Engineering Technician:
    High school diploma or GED and a minimum of four (4) years of applicable experience, an Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college and a minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, technical experience in construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines.   • Practical field experience conducting operation and maintenance of mechanical systems including simple troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems. (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)
  • Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (preferred)
