DistrictOverview
Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation, and water projects. We self‑perform a large portion of the work, including mass grading, drainage, PCCP paving, utilities, and more. We are looking for people committed to the construction industry with safety, quality, costs, and schedule in mind.
LocationMultiple locations, depending on project needs in the Southwest. We relocate our teams based on available work, development plans, skill sets, and career goals so your Kiewit adventure is custom‑designed to meet our shared needs.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource projects.
- Ensure that safety protocols align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit’s safety standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors and provide guidance on safety‑related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
- Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource construction.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies. Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
- Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
- Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on heavy civil, transportation, and/or water resource projects.
- In‑depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
- May work at various different locations; conditions may vary.
