This position is responsible for operating multiple Veolia contracted client water and wastewater facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to cover vacations & absences at existing facilities, assist in the training and development of local operations teams, and to serve in a support role at new account start‑ups. The role includes process changes to meet compliance, troubleshooting processes & equipment, maintenance (routine, reactive, and preventive), process & compliance sampling, laboratory testing, and writing and distributing a daily shift report.
The position requires significant travel, sometimes for extended periods of time – ranging from 1‑2 weeks away from home to a month for extenuating circumstances.
- Maintain complete operational coverage of Veolia operated facilities in your designated region as vacations and unplanned absences arise, requiring significant schedule flexibility.
- Assist in the operational development of all local technicians through in‑person training visits, development of electronic training materials, and directing training efforts.
- Ensure industry standards and best practices are in use at all Veolia operated facilities.
- Support new account start‑up projects in collaboration with the Senior Wastewater Operational Technician (SWOT) team.
- Provide knowledgeable support to local technicians for troubleshooting process issues and ensuring proactive decisions.
- Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of water into the wastewater treatment plant.
- Collect and test wastewater samples at specified frequencies.
- Maintain accurate record keeping of client data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and pressure.
- Comply with all Veolia and client safety parameters and programs.
- Analyze lab data to uncover potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non‑compliance.
- Compile data for the Environmental Protection Agency or state regulatory bodies as required.
- Coordinate with other operators throughout the client’s facility to maintain wastewater treatment equipment.
- Consult with clients and Veolia management on operations to determine the best treatment for wastewater.
- Coordinate with the client to schedule third‑party maintenance support for projects outside Veolia’s scope of work.
- Complete all preventative maintenance tasks defined by Veolia and client management at the designated frequency.
- Assist in minor maintenance projects such as chemical pump repair, small PVC piping installation, valve replacement, and AOD pump repairs.
- Assist in intermediate maintenance projects including replacement of mechanical pump seals, packing seals, impellers, full PVC line replacements, and centrifugal pump replacements.
- Willingness and availability to work with fellow operators on off‑shifts when problems arise.
- 24/7 availability to wastewater operators and client management.
- Communicate frequently with the Veolia Account Manager regarding plant operation, compliance, maintenance, and personnel issues.
- Provide supervision and leadership to team members, exemplifying hard work, attention to detail, fair treatment, and responsibility.
