Engineering Director – Global Web Engineering (Phoenix, AZ)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire

Compensation: Base salary range $140,000–$200,000

About the Role

We’re assisting our client for an Engineering Director to lead multiple teams building high‑scale, high‑performance customer‑facing web experiences. This leader will drive execution of the web roadmap, develop engineering talent, align cross‑functional stakeholders, and elevate modern engineering practices across platforms and delivery.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
  • Lead, mentor, and grow multiple web engineering teams (co‑located and remote).
  • Drive execution of the web product roadmap with strong delivery discipline and engineering metrics.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Business, and Technology to enable product execution.
  • Establish consistent engineering standards across architecture, tools, and delivery methods.
  • Build a culture of continuous learning
    , improvement, and high engineering excellence.
  • Own hiring, performance coaching, feedback loops, and career development for engineers.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Act as a change agent—challenge the status quo and improve how teams build and ship software.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years building customer‑facing software products at scale.
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams (direct people management).
  • 5+ years hands‑on experience building modern web applications and platforms.
Technical Background (What We’re Looking For)
  • Modern web frameworks:
    React, Angular (Redux/Flux a plus)
  • Backend/API:
    Node.js, Graph

    QL, REST

    , plus strong understanding of scalable API design
  • Languages:

    Java Script and Java
  • Data/edge/platform:
    Mongo

    DB, Couchbase, Akamai
  • Martech/experience platforms:
    Adobe Experience Manager
    , Adobe Analytics / Google Analytics
  • Cloud:
    AWS or GCP (Azure also acceptable)
  • Engineering excellence:
    CI/CD
    , testing strategies (unit/integration/E2E), observability, performance & reliability engineering, microservices and API gateway patterns
Leadership Profile
  • Strong communicator who can influence across organizations and drive alignment.
  • Proven ability to coach, develop, and motivate engineers at all levels.
  • Comfortable balancing strategy with technical depth—able to dive in, evaluate trade‑offs, and guide architecture decisions.
