The Director of Engineered Solutions & Special Projects leads engineered pumping, dewatering, and infrastructure pursuits from early opportunity identification through execution. This role integrates business development, engineering, estimating, rentals, and field operations to deliver turnkey pumping solutions and advance CPE’s position as a full-service engineered solutions partner.
This position requires extensive statewide travel (up to 80%) to support branch operations, customers, and project execution.
Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Lead and win small to large scale engineered pumping, dewatering, and infrastructure pursuits from opportunity identification through contract award
- Own pursuit strategy by coordinating sales, engineering, estimating, rentals, service, and field operations to deliver competitive, executable solutions
- Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with municipalities, public agencies, consulting engineers, EPC firms, contractors, and industrial clients
- Provide technical leadership for engineered pumping systems, including sewer bypass, wastewater pumping, dewatering, slurry, pressure boosting, and temporary water systems
- Oversee pump selection, system sizing, technical calculations, and professional submittals to ensure performance, constructability, and risk mitigation
- Lead estimating, takeoffs, and preconstruction planning, ensuring accurate quantities, constructability, safety, logistics, and margin protection
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex, high-risk, or mission-critical projects and field execution challenges
- Leverage field experience to support planning, installations, emergencies, and system startups
- Expand and integrate CPE’s turnkey service offerings across rentals, pump sales, field service, HDPE piping, fusion, and installation
- Identify opportunities to bundle solutions to improve profitability, asset utilization, and customer retention
- Represent CPE as a senior technical and commercial leader in strategic customer discussions
- Mentor and support the development of technical sales, estimators, and project personnel
- Deep technical expertise in engineered pumping systems and complex, temporary infrastructure applications
- Strong proficiency in pump selection, system sizing, HDPE piping, pipe assemblies, and fusion methods
- Proven ability to lead and secure large-scale ($10M–$20M+) infrastructure pursuits
- Demonstrated success delivering turnkey solutions integrating rentals, sales, service, and installation
- Advanced estimating and preconstruction planning skills with strong focus on constructability, logistics, safety, and margin discipline
- High-level commercial acumen, including pricing strategy, risk management, and asset utilization
- Effective communicator across field crews, engineers, executives, and customers
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and provide technical decision-making support for complex projects
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
- 10+ years of experience in engineered pumping, dewatering, wastewater, infrastructure, construction, or industrial services
- Proven success leading large-scale ($10M–$20M+) project pursuits and business development initiatives
- Demonstrated experience delivering turnkey pumping solutions, including estimating, preconstruction planning, and execution
- Strong working knowledge of pump systems, HDPE piping, fusion, and field installation practices
- Hands-on field experience supporting construction, troubleshooting, and emergency response preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted
- Travel up to 80% of the time is required for branch visits, operational reviews, and regional oversight.
- Ability to work in both office and outdoor yard environments with exposure to weather, equipment noise, and dust.
- Standing, walking, bending, and lifting as required for branch and fleet inspections.
