The EHS Specialist is responsible for building and executing the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) system at PGH.
This is an entry‑level, high‑impact role for a hands‑on builder who will:- Establish foundational EHS systems in the first 90 days.
- Transition into execution and culture‑building across the organization.
This role is important to ensure compliance, protecting our people, and enabling PGH to operate with excellence all the time.
Accountabilities Build & Maintain EHS System- Design, implement, and continuously improve PGH’s EHS systems, including policies, SOPs, documentation, and compliance frameworks.
- Own compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and SMETA requirements, including:
- OSHA 300 logs.
- Documentation readiness.
- Audit support and corrective actions.
- Reported immediately.
- Properly documented.
- Investigated for root cause.
- Followed by corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Training employees and supervisors.
- Reinforcing safe behaviors.
- Coaching teams to take ownership of safety.
- Track and report key metrics:
- Incident rates.
- Near misses.
- Safety compliance.
- Environmental metrics.
- Use data to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Build (First 90 Days)
- Develop EHS policies and procedures.
- Implement incident reporting system.
- Establish OSHA compliance processes.
- Build documentation and tracking systems.
- Close SMETA‑related gaps.
- Integrate EHS into onboarding and SOPs.
Execute & Scale
- Conduct safety audits and inspections.
- Deliver training across all shifts.
- Lead incident investigations.
- Monitor compliance and performance.
- Partner with operations to improve safety outcomes.
- Develop environmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Monitor waste handling and environmental impact.
- Support sustainability and continuous improvement efforts.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
- Strong attention management & documentation skills.
- Ability to work hands‑on in plant and field environments.
- Assertiveness in communication and influence skills.
- Builder mindset: able to create systems from scratch.
- Bilingual, English & Spanish.
- EHS system fully implemented within first 90 days.
- Audit‑ready documentation at all times.
- Reduction in safety incidents and risks.
- Strong adoption of safety practices across teams.
- All employees actively owning safety (Culture of Safety).
- $55,000 – $65,000 base salary & 10% target bonus.
- Time off: 10 days for PTO & 9 company paid holidays.
