Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Planner II (Transportation focused) to join our Arizona Environmental Planning team. This hybrid role will be based in our Phoenix, AZ office and will work closely with our Environmental and Transportation Planning teams.
In this role, you will play a central part in the transportation project lifecycle by providing environmental technical assistance and task management for a variety of planning and permitting efforts. You will collaborate with senior staff to gather field data, conduct technical analysis, and write technical reports. A significant portion of your role will involve project coordination tasks, where you will track stakeholder coordination, project tasks, and timelines.
You will also support agency engagement with local, state, and federal agencies and check public involvement efforts.
- NEPA & Regulatory Support: Assist clients and project managers with the development and review of NEPA documents (CE, EA, EIS) and state‑level environmental reviews for transportation projects.
- Technical Writing & Authoring: Prepare technical reports on topics such as biological resources, hazardous materials, land use, and socioeconomics.
- GIS Analysis & Mapping: Collect data, conduct analysis, and prepare maps and reports on census, land use, and environmental topics.
- Permitting & Compliance: Develop environmental permit applications, technical reports, and mitigation and monitoring plans in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Task Management: Facilitate status meetings, manage milestone check‑ins, and coordinate day‑to‑day communication with internal teams and subcontractors.
- Field Investigation: Perform field inspections to gather project‑relevant data for reviews and permitting.
- Data Research & Analysis: Compile GIS data and produce reports, maps, and graphics to support impact analysis.
- Public & Agency Outreach: Develop meeting materials, support public meetings, and maintain project records.
- Operational Support: Attend occasional evening or weekend meetings and travel to project sites as needed.
