ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

The Water Services Department is seeking to hire a Senior Engineering Technician. In this role, you will perform a variety of Civil and Technical engineering work duties which may include:

* Area calculation and construction blueprint/plan interpretation.

* Estimating costs and assessments.

* Reviewing plans and maps. Issuing permits, and processing cash transactions.

* All positions will require daily contact with customers in person and on the phone.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

* Effective oral and written communication skills.

* Knowledge of traffic engineering principles

* Ability to:

* Read basic site maps and be able to find groundwater monitoring wells and landfill gas wells at the various landfills.

* Produce documents using property sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

* Read and comprehend simple specifications, plans, and shop drawings.

SALARY

Pay and Hiring Range: $24.34 - $41.63 per hour.

Pay Range Explanation:

* Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.

* Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 350. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

* Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.

* Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.

* Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

* When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Two years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work.

* Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Working conditions:

* Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust may be required.

* Walking for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with the following:

* Reading and interpreting plat maps, as-builts, quarter section maps, boundary books, etc.

* Managing multiple professional services and construction contracts.

* Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and KIVA/KIVA IMS applications.

* Working with developers or contractors in the construction field.

* Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software.

* Water Distribution System Operator Certifications.

* Water, Sewer and/or ROW Field Construction.

* Reviewing less complex construction plans.

* Using KIVA and/or KIVA IMS applications.

* Plan review and electronic plan review.

* Water Services Department.

* Field construction.
